Museum time

Have also spent some time in the Museums - whoda thunk it??

Had a couple of hours back at The Met yesterday - looking at the new American wing, focussing on the period rooms. These are recreations / reinstallations of rooms from various houses that were in the process of being demolished / renovated and were bought by / donated to the museum. They reflect all manner of architectural style but mostly seemed to related to New York / American houses.

Also spent some more time in the Visible Storage looking at the Singer Sargents, Eakins, Whistlers, Childe Hassams, Mary Cassatts, Winslow Homers etc.

Today I took the subway uptown to 204th st to see the Dyckman House - which is the only remaining Dutch farmhouse in Manhattan. Built in the 1790s its set up to reflect life in the early 1800s.

And then I headed off to The Cloisters - the Medieval section of The Met in Fort Tyron Park - and spent much time gazing at the Hunting of the Unicorn tapestries - which are around 500 years old and so beautiful and detailed. I sat in the sunshine in one of the Cloisters - and tried to take some photos but my camera seems to not to want to take photos outside at the moment, & they all turned out really ghostly. sigh.

I love the idea of Visible Storage ... but when do we get to see the new shoes!
